PlayStation 4 Specs Revealed

The PlayStation 4 specs have been revealed by Sony! Let’s take a look:

  • Main Processor
    Single-chip custom processor
    CPU : x86-64 AMD “Jaguar”, 8 cores
    GPU : 1.84 TFLOPS, AMD next-generation Radeon based graphics engine
  • Memory
    GDDR5 8GB unified memory
  • Hard Disk Drive
    Built-in
  • Optical Drive (read only)
    BD 6xCAV
    DVD 8xCAV
  • I/O
    Super-Speed USB (USB 3.0) 、AUX
    Communication Ethernet (10BASE-T, 100BASE-TX, 1000BASE-T)

Furthermore, the DualShock 4 controller will feature:

  • Touchpad between face buttons.
  • Share button for recording and other social interactions
  • Fixed Triggers
  • Headphone jack
  • Designed with a stereo peripheral camera to track the position of the controller in three dimensional space

 

More over, the PlayStation 4 has been revealed to NOT be backwards compatible with the PlayStation 3. Furthermore, you cannot transfer your PSN purchases from the PlayStation 3 to the PlayStation 4. However, you will be able to stream them to your PlayStation 4 through the use of Gaikai’s services. More on that will hopefully be revealed soon.

  • All the Gaikai stuff is confusing and even though it may add to the price tag they really should op for native reverse compatibility with PS3 otherwise all the games PS3 users bought will be useless unless they’re gonna make something that lets u enter the PS3 games u own and like store them on ur PS4 or something. And 8 GB us a lotta memory right? One of you smarter people should write up an article explaining what the hell all that techy stuff means ~Seiko/Torre

    • Well, there is 1024 megabytes in a gigabyte, and the PS3 had 521 mb of storage. So, with 8 gb, 8 x 1024 = 8192 mb. Which means the PS4 had 15.7 times the amount of storage the PS3 did (If I did my math correctly)
