I now pronounce you husband and wife! Or, Moogle and Moogle? In Square Enix’s new Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, a future patch will add a new feature allowing marriage between men and women and paladins and cat people. No word on any Moogle marriages being added later on in the game at the moment, but knowing Square Enix, anything can happen in the future.
In a recent Q&A with Sqaure Enix, some staff members working on the game explained why they plan on adding this feature after the game is released. When creating a world, they wanted to implement as many realistic elements as possible, and marriage is one such element. The sanctum was placed in the game where players’ characters can get married, even though the feature will not be accessible from the beginning.
Sqaure Enix also mentioned the possibility of including same gender marriage in the game and felt this is to be an extremely controversial topic that has been under discussion in the MMO world for the past few years. Sqaure Enix would like to start out with opposite gender marriage first, and would later make a decision based on player feedback. They are not sure whether or not it will be possible at this point, however, they would like to communicate openly with players as they deliberate the matter.
