What we know so far:
Final Fantasy 25th Anniversary 300 years after the events of Final Fantasy XIII-2, Lightning wakes up in NovaPartus with 13 days left to save the world. Because of Etro’s death in XIII-2, Gran Pulse and Valhalla merged to form Nova Partus, a chain of islands floating in the Sea of Chaos with a new ‘Cocoon’ floating in the sky. The Chaos has stopped everyone from aging.
Lightning will be the only playable character in the game, but can have customized costumes. The game will be world-driven, meaning that events will occur throughout Nova Partus, whether Lightning is present to see them or not. This creates many potential routes to completing the game, and as a result, it is impossible to experience all the events in one playthrough. This is meant to encourage gamers to do more than one playthough.
Elements of the game have been taken from Final Fantasy Versus XIII. The Doom Clock is the most prominent feature of the game. It will count down the time that Lightning has left to save the world. Once the clock hits zero, it’s game over. Lightning can increase the time by completing missions and making new discoveries. Conversely, she can use powerful moves that decrease time. Lightning will be supported throughout the game by Hope, who takes on the role of Mission Control. Jump Festa 2013 Newly released screenshots of LR show Lightning exploring Luxerion and investigating a spate of deaths in a possible route. Lightning will encounter monsters in Luxerion, which will spawn in places with black haze. The haze will appear at certain places and times in the city. Half of the monsters that Lightning will encounter are new,and by defeating them, she can increase her time on the clock and earn items that can upgrade her equipment.
Snow will also be appearing in the game with a new costume.
The game’s ending won’t be DLC like XIII-2’s was.
Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII will be released in 2013.
