Popular Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu reports the progress of upcoming Final Fantasy releases. Accordingly, four of Square-Enix’s titles are represented by percentage to demonstrate how far they are in their development phases:
- Final Fantasy X HD – 80%
- Final Fantasy X-2 HD – 65%
- Final Fantasy VIII (PC Remaster) – 80%
- Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII – 70%
Three of the above titles are slated for release mid to late 2013 in North America, Europe and Japan, with Lightning Returns on the current gen consoles (PS3 and 360), and the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remasters for the Sony systems (PS3 and Vita). Final Fantasy VIII’s PC Remaster has been confirmed for release in Japan, though without a release date. Aside from Final Fantasy VIII, the aforementioned titles along with Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, are being teased at the upcoming E3 event.
However, there is an obvious omission, as Final Fantasy Versus XIII is nowhere in sight. With the recent financial statement by Square-Enix, in combination with Square’s CEO change, it looks like Versus XIII’s development is still in held in secrecy. Looks like we’ll have to wait longer for more news regarding the extensively-delayed title; though with the statement that Versus’s info reveal event are set, and a teased Final Fantasy title from Sony’s Press Conference, we’ll have to set our hopes on E3.
For anyone who may be attending E3 this year, held from June 11th to 13th in Los Angeles, CA, can look forward to picking up Lightning Returns and Final Fantasy XIV tote bags, among other possibly memorabilia. Square-Enix recently updated their “Square-Enix Presents” page with details on what fans can expect.
